The Thamesford Lions Club has partnered with the Upper Thames River Conservation Authority and Zorra Township to create some areas along the river bank in Lions River Park that are accessible for fishing or just viewing the river. The Club committed $5,000 to move the project forward while Upper Thames secured funding from several sources. At present Upper Thames has $12,000 collected for this project which they will manage as this project evolves.
We have a local contractor, Hogg Construction Ltd. completing the construction of the viewing areas. Construction of the first 4 viewing areas commenced on Friday November 10, 2023.
This project includes a significant amount of natural vegetation planting along the river in these areas. The plan is to involve the community planting in these areas next spring.
This project is intended to improve the river bank area along the length of the park to allow people to more easily enjoy the river bank while protecting the river bank and fish habitat.
Upper Thames is planning a celebrate the watershed event in Lions River Park in June 2024.
The Lions Club will continue to work closely with Upper Thames and the Township on this project for our community.
